Breakfast

High above the roofs,
the frost-lacquered
crane branch
holds a
plump, radiant
orange.

Hungry for warmth,
I grasp the vital
sphere and
slice it
into thick
wedges.

A paper towel on my lap, I
sink my teeth
into the morning glow:

calm,
juicy.

Sweetly sour.

Hi Anna! I'm sorry to be so late arriving at this poem, but catching up is taking quite a bit of time. All the other comments say pretty much what I think also. Lovely poem and a joy to read!

This poem is delicious, Anna. I love the luscious imagery.

I've enjoyed visiting your site and I'll come back. If you have a chance, take a look at my site. I have a passionate interest in anything Italian (it's my ancestry), food, literature, and people.

Hi Anna. I just dropped by, in my new role as an outsider, to thank you for your kind comments about DarkSparks and to say that I hope you won't mind my visiting now and then.

Ken,
of course I won't mind, I'll be honored!
I will miss DarkSparks, and I wish I had discovered it earlier, but at least I was able to read and enjoy some of your works.
Take good care of yourself :)

Anna, you have such economy with words.
Relating the orange to the morning is wonderful. This is a clear, direct, precise poem. A pomme of a poem. (I'm sure you know French)
