that when the light switch clicked,
I caught you checking your
fears in the mirror.
Behind the corner of
my eye, refractions of your
burnished stare
mummified perception.
Subtly blaming me of
blindness, you spoke
of lips sewn shut
and pain unscreamed.
I wish you knew
I never meant to
step so
close.

after scrolling through about 50 blogs looking for a photogenic female my age and when i finally find one (managgia!) you unfortunately are 7 hours away by plane - fa niente! io adoro l'italia e anche la francia - i'm moving there in about a year or so per essere traductore. i'm impressed with your english - i'm sure people tell you that all the time. ti piace i periculi di pasolini? medea? edipo re? il vangelo secundo matteo? teorema? anyway your english is good but is it so good that you can understand me?
Anna I stepped too close and am currently paying the price. It hurts like hell. The "lips sewn shut" and the "pain unscreamed" are torture. One of those things that shouldn't have happened but did. Your words today touched a raw nerve.
i glanced at exercise du style a long time ago but my french wasn't as up to snuff to really get ahold of it - plus i decided that since he wasn't as acclaimed as some other french writers i decided not to bother.
i feel sorry for you - you're in the italophone world but your heart is in the anglophone world
transudes is a very good word - congrats!
Virgo - I'm sorry my words brought back negative emotions. ("I never meant to..." - Oh, the irony!).
My nerve's been raw for about seven years.
Thank you, Kyle.
I had a look at your blogs.
Your use of language is quite original and cryptical.
I like the way you play with words, and all those "blends". Being passionate about linguistics, I find it very fascinating and entertaining. Well-done - I bet you have a lot of fun with it!
Have you read R.Queneau's "Exercises de style"?
I tend to prefer foreign literature to Italian, but I do like the classics. I definitely enjoyed "Edipo Re", as well as "Antigone".
It was interesting to study such plays from a Freudian point of view.
I wish you the best with your translation studies in Europe!
Thanks for stopping by.
Kyle,
don't feel sorry for me.
I'm loving every minute of it! :)
Truth is I'm still too close right now, which is why the nerve is raw. No the irony of your final line was not lost on me Anna...!
Maybe you saw my poem Green Eyes, there's a link in the sidebar? That was 20 years ago and a nerve can still be touched there too.
Seven years is like yesterday, yes?
Virgo - I just read your "Remembering Green Eyes". It's an incredibly deep poem. The infamous "unspoken code" never seems to go out of fashion, huh? Well, why should it? It's so effective, after all. It marks you for life.
Seven years is like yesterday, indeed.
You can't change what happened, you can only grow.
Thanks for reading Anna. I chose an approach unlike yours and it's interesting to see how two very different styles can treat the same theme.
It is interesting, and you're welcome.
This is a stunning poem, Anna!
Thank you so much, Sharon!
Very tight and strong poem, Anna. Each word, each line break is perfect.
Thank you, Patry!
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
This is so tight. Very nicely done.
Thank you, Moose.
Very nice!
Thank you!
A bientôt
There are many wonderful images here, but the one that resonated me was this first one:
when the light switch clicked,
I caught you checking your
fears in the mirror.
Thank you so much!
I'm glad you enjoyed my poem.
All the imagery in it comes from a vivid dream I had.
wow, that was really beautiful. in a bittersweet manner. Loved it.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
First, an apology. I tried very hard to visit eah new WBA member's blog as they came in but somehow I missed yours. Trust me to miss one of the best! Your writing is powerful, the imagery very immediate. And the fact that English is not your first language just floors me (ah, there's an English saying that may confuse - basically it means that I bow before your facility with a foreign language, never having achieved such fluency myself). Of course, all this mean that you are warned hereby - I will be returning to read more as time goes on. ;)
Thank you so much! :)
Hello!
Beautiful poem..."Subtly blaming
me of blindness, you spoke
of lips sewn shut and pain
unscreamed..." mesmerized me
these lines -
thankyou so much for linking me-
but I'm just a beginner poet -
literally weeks old, i have also
linked you -
smiles!
Thank you so much, Madelyn!
And, thank you for linking me, too.
You might be a beginner poet, but I wonder, does that really count when the poetry is good? And, yours is very good.
:)
Happy Valentine's Day, Anna!
Thank you! Happy Velentine's to you!
Lovely. Happy Valentine's Day to you.
Thank you, Finnegan. Happy V-day to you too.
I hope that no one ever catches me checking my fears in the mirror. That might be a little awkward. . . .
Ahaha!
thank you for the franch translation, because as everybody people know, French people speak very well stranger language, but only if it's FRENCH !
So Sorry for my bad english !
but your poem is beautiful but, more, very interristing !
thanks again

Pour ce qui concerne la traduction en Français, il faut que vous remerciez Monsieur Athanase Vantchev de Thracy (www.athanase.org).
Je vous souhaite une très bonne journée, et je ne tarderais pas à visiter votre blog.
Cordialement,
Anna.
merci de ton mot Anna
et de ta visite sur mon blog
chaleureusement
C'était mon plaisir.
i like the feeling of the poem, it's a feeling that i once had and when i read thiswas all so familiar
Thank you.
Well, I couldn't leave this one uncommented! It received approbation because it strikes a strong, metaphoric resonance. No-one can avoid the implications. It is a beautiful insight. Thank you. Ivan
Thank YOU, Ivan.
I LOVE this poem!
Thank you so much, GEL!
